Hiring an Interior Decorator: The Pros and Cons!

If you are simply wanting to decorator a space meaning nothing is permanent (think paint, pillows, rugs, draperies, rearranging existing furniture, etc..) - then an Interior Decorator is who you should hire for your project. They are also known as “stylists” and/or “E-Designers”. Really, anyone can call themselves an Interior Decorator because there is no formal training or license to be an Interior Decorator. An Interior Decorator can change a look of a room without spending too much time and money on the space. If you do not need a contractor and do not plan on physically changing the room(s) at all, then an Interior Decorator is your best option. If you are planning on hiring a contractor to tear down a wall, build cabinetry/furniture, install/remove/relocate lighting, HVAC, plumbing - normally an Interior Decorator will not get involved. While Interior Decorators visually decorate a room, they do not design. Read on to discover when you will need an Interior Designer!

Interior Designer: The Pros and Cons!

If you have a complex project, and don’t even know where to begin - an Interior Designer may be your solution! An Interior Designer thinks though every aspect of a job and knows the questions to ask to make sure each and every decision made is the right one. Interior Designers have been educated and usually have had the experience to work with programs such as AutoCAD and rendering platforms that can be used between contractors and architects. Interior Designers ensure functionality, sustainability, space planning, and understand costs/issues associated with major changes so they can discuss budget and be confident in what the homeowner can expect. This could actually save you money and precious time in the long run. An Interior Designer then does everything an Interior Decorator does, and personally it’s my favorite part of each project I work on!

Still undecided? Book a discovery call with me!

In my 20+ years of design experience, I have worked on many different projects with many different budget levels. One customer is always completely different from the next, which is why a discovery call is so important. As mentioned above, every Cincinnati Interior Designer does things differently and charges their clients differently. I’m a huge fan of being 100% honest with my customers up front and during the process. Some interior designers hide their markups on furniture/accessories, and they charge for hours that they didn’t do anything. This is not me. I have flat fees and a 30% markup on anything I choose for you. If you want an affordable Interior Designer, I charge by the hour ($150/hour) and I will let you know how long it will take for me to finish your project (Click here for other services I offer).

Interior Design has and always will be my passion when it comes to my career, and I treat every customer the same no matter what your budget is. I look forward to working with you!
