Spring Refresh: Top Interior Design Tips for your Cincinnati Home
Spring in Cincinnati is the perfect time to breath new life into your home.
As the trees bloom and the sun shines brighter, homeowners across Hyde Park, Madeira, Indian Hill, and downtown Cincinnati are inspired to refresh their interiors. Whether you're sprucing up your kitchen, reimagining your living room, or giving your dining space a new vibe, here are the top Spring Interior Design trends and tips to make it happen —plus a peek at some of my recent work!
Key Tip: Layering color is all about balance—start with a neutral base (like this fireplace and wall color), then add depth with accent chairs, rugs, and throw pillows in complementary tones. Finish with bold pops of color in artwork or decor to create a cohesive, curated look that feels inviting and dynamic.

Embrace Color with Purpose
Spring is all about fresh, happy hues. Want to go bold? Color-blocked walls, custom millwork, and statement furniture in saturated tones are trending. Pulp Design Studios (you should follow them on Instagram!) does an amazing job with color and curated pieces, so inspirational! Being in the midwest, we tend to play it safe with color and textures. One of my clients loved mixing plums, greys, pinks, and the neutral black for a playful, energetic palette. It turned out stunning!
Key Tip: When designing a coffee bar, neutral doesn’t have to mean boring! Mix textures like matte wood cabinetry, veined quartz countertops, and textured tile, to create a layered look. The contrast in materials keeps the space visually interesting while maintaining a calm, cohesive vibe.

2. Natural Materials Are In (Still!)
From light wood cabinetry (like the sleek coffee bar below) to natural stone backsplashes, and stone like tile textures, are having a major moment. These choices add warmth, depth, and timeless appeal—plus they’re super versatile. The key here is to have all materials be neutral but have different textures so it still creates a cohesive look. If budget allows, having no handles on cabinets creates a super clean look that gives off a sense of calm to the space.
Key Tip: Adding bar stools to a console table is not only functional, it can add color and texture where it is most needed!

3. Functional Spaces that Flex with you
Your home should work for you. In Cincinnati, we’re seeing a huge demand for multi-functional spaces that balance beauty with practicality. Think home bars, cozy work nooks, and built-in storage that doesn’t scream “utility.” Like this dreamy living room below—equal parts stylish and functional.
Key Tip: Want to bring greenery into your space without overdoing it? Think of plants as living art! Instead of placing greenery on every surface, opt for a statement piece—like a wall-mounted planter display or a custom shelf with clips—that showcases your plants creatively. Bonus: they're easy to remove when it's time for watering

4. Bring the outdoors in!
Maximize natural light, highlight greenery, and let your surroundings inspire you. Whether it’s large windows that frame lush trees or a subtle nature-inspired color scheme, a connection to the outdoors will always elevate your interior. There are even furniture pieces that mimic the outdoors like the Teak Console Table (shown above) in a recent rendering I created for a client.
Key Tip: Doing a gallery wall on a staircase can be tricky! Be sure to follow the angle of the stairs. Align frames so they rise with the steps, keeping consistent spacing between each piece. Mix frame sizes and art styles for personality, but stick to a cohesive color palette to keep it visually balanced.
5. Add Custom Details for Personality
Design is in the details. From curated accessories to handcrafted furniture, adding bespoke elements makes your home feel unique. I love helping Cincinnati homeowners create spaces that feel so them —like this cozy, stairway with tile risers and a custom gallery wall filled with photos the family wanted to showcase.
