Why “AI” Will Not Be the Solution for Your Interior Project

Hiring a virtual designer or using online programs AI (Artificial Intelligence) can relieve a client with some tasks and give them a good roadmap into the outcome they want for their space, but the misconception of it replacing an actual Interior Designer is something that is coming up more and more in the industry. From sourcing inspiration images, capturing current (and accurate) space measurements, to sketching floor plans, managing deliverables, and coordinating with contractors, it becomes evident that the value you receive from these services is directly proportional to your effort and involvement.

A skilled interior designer will craft a custom interior with unique pieces to ensure a perfect fit and a special touch for your home. Designers have access to exclusive furniture, fabrics, and materials not readily available to the public. A well-designed home never goes unnoticed, however working with an experienced interior designer like myself, I make sure to choose function and budget first to make the client feel comfortable in every decision that will be made for the space.

Despite the availability of AI and free online services for Interior Design, my clients continue to seek my expertise. Why? While AI can handle certain tasks of an Interior Designer, it cannot match the dedication, time, efficiency, and precision (let alone the wealth of experience and knowledge) that a human designer provides. AI, similar to social media, is an algorithm designed to benefit profit-driven companies. Their primary focus is not your best interest.

Interior Designers themselves can begin with AI options available online to delve into inventive solutions and make well-informed choices, thereby improving their creative workflow.
In architectural and interior design projects, efficiency and speed play a vital role. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can expedite these processes by automating tasks like generating 3D models, rendering, and drafting. However, there are crucial measurements that are needed that AI simply cannot do.

By minimizing the time allocated to these tasks, designers can focus on more advanced project elements, like design aesthetics and engaging with clients. Overall, this saves the designer time which saves clients money.

TOP REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD CHOOSE A PROFESSIONAL OVER A FREE (OR EVEN PAID) AI SERVICE ONLINE

  1. AI will not be able to ensure you are code compliant. It will not be able to give you the correct amount of distance between walls and furniture to ensure proper flow based on client’s needs

  2. AI is not able to build a relationship. Have a specific question or revision based on the product the AI robot built? You won’t get the right answer or have the time built into back and forth with a robot to help revise a specific area that an Interior Designer can do in seconds.

  3. AI will not be as creative. There are limits in technology that a well trained eye will always have. Someone being on site, and seeing colors, patterns, textures, and in different lighting will outweigh any AI product.

  4. AI may end up having you do more work that an Interior Designer already does for you. AI is transforming the industry, and it will continue to do so. However, the information the designer collects up front may take you a lot of work to implement into the AI platform to get to the point you are 100% satisfied with the AI work you receive.
